Saura Weekly Updates 9/18/16

Weekly Updates - September 18, 2016

Direct Donation Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our direct donation fundraiser so far.  Remember that if every student collects just $20 in donations, we will reach our goal of $10,000.  We have just about reached the $1,000 mark so we have a way to go for our students to earn the free tailgate and entrance into our next home football game.  Donations are tax deductible and will assist in purchasing instructional supplies, beautifying our campus, and upgrading technology.  Cash and checks are accepted or you can donate using credit or debit cards online by going to our website and clicking on Donate to SSHS. Students who collect the following amounts will receive the following incentives:

At least $25 in donations - South Stokes T-Shirt
At least $75 in donations - Choose from Gift Certificate Display
At least $150 in donations - South Stokes 2016-2017 Yearbook

Students' names will also be entered into drawings for each $5 they collect.

PSAT
Sophomores and juniors planning to attend a four-year college are encouraged to take the PSAT.  The test is the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program for juniors and is an excellent way to prepare for the SAT.  The test will be given during the school day on October 19.  Registration is now available in the Counseling Office and the cost is $15.  Fee waivers are available for juniors who are eligible.

School Fees
School fees are now being collected in the office.  Fees can be paid with check or cash.  Checks should include phone numbers.  You can also pay fees online at https://www.k12paymentcenter.com/.  You can find detailed information about this service on the Stokes County Schools website on the Parent Page.  We will also be adding a link on the South Stokes Parent Page later this week.

The following classes have fees:
Art - $12.00
Band - $12.00
Chorus/Theatre Arts - $10.00
Math - $5.00
PE - $8.00
Science (regular) - $5.00
Science (advanced) - $10.00

Attendance
Parents, we need your assistance!  It is very important that students be in class on time everyday.  While we realize that it is allergy season, please encourage your child to attend school regularly.  Missing excessive days can result in no credit being awarded for classes which negatively impacts the ability to graduate on time.  You can check your child's attendance and grades in PowerSchool and can have PowerSchool text or email you with grades and attendance information.  Help us make sure your child earns the credits they need to excel!

Progress Reports & Parent/Teacher Conferences
The first progress reports of the year should come home on Tuesday.  Please discuss these reports with your child.  We will hold Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, September 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Please make plans to stop by and visit with your child's teachers on the 27th to get more in-depth information about your child's progress to this point.
