Saura Weekly Updates - August 26, 2018

Monday is the first day of school!  We want to thank everyone who came out to our 2018 Open House and Freshman Orientation!  Over 85% of students picked up their schedules on Tuesday night and several others came by later in the week.  We appreciate your interest and involvement in South!  All students will report to the gym when the bell rings on Monday morning.  After the assembly, they will report to homeroom and receive new copies of their schedules.

Bus Routes

Bus routes for the 2018-2019 school year have been adjusted due to the loss of one bus.  Bus drivers worked on calling families last week to give an approximate pick up time for Monday morning.  Please note pick up times are approximate!  Please plan to be ready 15-20 minutes before the pick up time in case the bus is running early.

Chromebook Distribution Information
Returning students who have previously checked out a Chromebook are not required to attend training and may pick up their Chromebook the first day of school.  Students should bring a completed Student/Parent Chromebook Agreement Form (last page) for 2018-2019 and the $25 insurance/maintenance fee to receive their Chromebook.

On Monday, teachers will send students needing Chromebooks to the library according to the following schedule:

12th Graders - 1st period
11th Graders - 2nd period
10th Graders - 3rd period
9th Graders - 4th period

Update Student Registration Information Online
You should have received an email to complete student registration or a paper copy of your SnapCode attached to your child's schedule at Open House.  If you have not already done so, please complete your child's student information materials online at http://www.stokes.k12.nc.us/enroll-in-our-schools.html.  Completing these forms will help ensure we have the most up-to-date contact information to help us maintain contact with you about your child's progress at school.

Drivers Ed Registration
Registration for the next drivers ed class is now available on the Drivers Ed page of the South Stokes website.  Students must be born on or before March 10, 2004 to register for the class.  The class will be held September 10-24 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the auditorium at South Stokes.  Registration will close on August 31.  Please read all information on the Drivers Ed page and complete the registration form if your child is eligible for the class.

Changes for 2018-2019
In an effort to continually provide a safe and secure environment for students, we would like to make you aware of a few changes for the upcoming school year.

Door Buzzers - Shortly after school starts we will have a new buzzer system in place to monitor entrance into the school and across campus.  You will notice a button to the right of the front entrance that will soon be operational that you will use to gain access to campus during the school day.  Additional details will be provided as installation is completed.

Parking Lot and Car Rider Pickup - Please remember that the speed limit in the school parking lot is 10 mph, especially at dismissal time.  We ask that students and parents follow the traffic pattern around the front entrance of the school when dropping off and picking up students each day.  Cutting across and through parking spaces during dismissal is dangerous and poses undue risk to students and families.  Car riders may be picked up in front of academic buildings where there is more supervision at dismissal.  The parking lot is usually clear by 3:30 pm.

Pets on Campus - You will notice new signs on campus now.  Please note only service animals that comply with NC General Statute 168 are allowed on campus.

We thank the School Board attending to the safety and security of our students and appreciate your support.

Parking Applications
Parking applications for the 2018-2019 school year are now available.  A complete application includes a signed application, "It's My Call/It's Your Call" form, and the $40 permit fee.  Parking places will be assigned based on when applications are received.  Seniors who submit forms by September 7 will receive first priority for front lot spots.  You may download the required forms from https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cSyNV67Thw5RfsI866UVBIO4aIqkOjc8.
