Saura Weekly Updates - March 29, 2020

Enhancement Activities / Instructional Materials
Teachers and administrators have been contacting students to make sure they can access course content remotely or arranging for paper packets for students to complete at home.  Most of our teachers are delivering content through email, Canvas, Google Classroom, or their websites.  A complete list of where teacher instructions can be found is on our website under Remote Instruction Information.

We strongly encourage students to check their school email at least once a day Monday through Friday for updates.  If students are unsure about how to check their email, information about how to log into all student accounts can be found in the Saura Tech Center recently created on our South Stokes website under Students.  Communication is essential as we work to make plans to deliver content remotely.  Please have your student make a contact with their teachers if they have not already.

Ms. Gallimore and I are usually in the office at school from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday through Friday if you would like to call for more information 336-994-2995.

Please keep an eye on the Stokes County Schools' website, South Stokes website and school social media sites for updates.  We will also send phone messages with relevant information as well.

Cap & Gown Pick-ups
We are arranging for seniors to be able to pick up graduation items they ordered.  A separate email and phone message will go out on Monday to seniors as details are finalized.

How Can I Help Students With Online Learning?
We've gathered several resources to help families determine what online learning should look like in their homes and where to find help when needed.  Below are several websites with information about remote learning and how to cope during this time of uncertainty.  Some of the tips we find over and over are listed below along with links to resources.

Best Practices for Learning from Home

1)  Establish a routine

  • Get up at the same time each day
  • Check email when you get started and then again later in the day

2)  Set up a work space
  • Gather all the materials you may need in one space (pencils, paper, calculator, etc)

3)  Communication is VERY important
  • Stay in touch with teacher!
  • Be sure to ask questions
  • If you are not sure how to communicate, check email or call the school 336-994-2995
4)  Use videos like those on YouTube to learn how to navigate online tools if needed
