Saura Weekly Updates - April 19, 2020

Registration for 2020-2021
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors should check their emails for instructions from their counselors on registering for their 2020-2021 classes.  Registration can be completed online

and we need all students to chose their courses so we can begin constructing schedules for next year.  You can access the Stokes County School 2020-2021 Course Selection Guide online for a list of courses available.

Our counselors have already met with many students about course options and continue to communicate with students via phone, email, and video conferences regarding course selections.  If you have questions about registration, please contact your student's counselor.

AP Exams
CollegeBoard has been working to make sure all students will be able to take AP exams from home if needed.  AP students can find all of the AP updates online (link below) which includes the testing schedule.  Exams are scheduled for May 11-22 with a specific day and time for each exam.  The exams will be much shorter than previous exams and AP teachers will continue to share updates with students as well.

Prom, Graduation, and More...
We realize many families are concerned about the activities that occur at the end of the school year like Prom, Awards Day, Graduation and more.  Our district is considering options, but no decisions will be made until we know more about mass gathering and social distancing requirements in May.  We will keep everyone updated as decisions are made and hope to resume school activities as soon as possible.

Remote Instruction
We continue to provide instruction remotely for all students.  Most students are doing a great job accessing and completing assignments.  We do have some students our teachers are concerned about who are not completing assignments regularly.  Please continue to check your student's PowerSchool to help monitor their progress this semester.  We encourage you to contact teachers if you have questions or concerns about their performance.  Teachers are available through the week and will be glad to assist you.  You can find email addresses for our teachers on the school website's staff page.

A complete list of where teachers are providing instruction can be found is on our website under Remote Instruction Information.  If students are unsure about how to check their email, information about how to log into all student accounts can be found in the Saura Tech Center recently created on our South Stokes website under Students.

Communication is essential as we work to make plans to deliver content remotely.  Please have your student check their email daily and make contact with their teachers when they have questions or concerns.

Need paper materials?
We know some students have little or no access to internet.  While we prefer students get materials online as we are able to communicate with them more easily live, if students have limited access to remote instruction, please call the school and talk to administrators about paper/pencil options for students.

Ms. Gallimore and I are usually in the office at school from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday through Friday if you would like to call for more information 336-994-2995.

Please keep an eye on the Stokes County Schools' websiteSouth Stokes website and school social media sites for updates.  We will also send phone messages with relevant information as well.

Chromebook Help
If students are having problems with the Chromebook, please complete a Tech Support Ticket on the school website or call the school.  We do have a scheduled time for students to have tech support on campus if needed.  Completing the form or calling ahead will allow you to schedule a time for assistance if needed.  Mrs. Campbell also has "Office Hours" each day when students can participate in a Google Meet with her.  If students need to speak with Mrs. Campbell, have them call the school and we will send them an invitation to her office hours.

How Can I Help Students With Online Learning?
We've gathered several resources to help families determine what online learning should look like in their homes and where to find help when needed.  Below are several websites with information about remote learning and how to cope during this time of uncertainty.  Some of the tips we find over and over are listed below along with links to resources.

Best Practices for Learning from Home

1)  Establish a routine

  • Get up at the same time each day
  • Check email when you get started and then again later in the day

2)  Set up a work space
  • Gather all the materials you may need in one space (pencils, paper, calculator, etc)

3)  Communication is VERY important
  • Stay in touch with teacher!
  • Be sure to ask questions
  • If you are not sure how to communicate, check email or call the school 336-994-2995
4)  Use videos like those on YouTube to learn how to navigate online tools if needed
