Saura Weekly Updates - April 5, 2020

Spring Break
This week is Spring Break for students and teachers.  Remote instruction will resume on Tuesday, April 14.  Please encourage students to complete any assignments they may not have completed this past week if possible.  We will have very limited office hours at school this week and the office will be closed on Friday, April 10.  Please remind students to practice social distancing and wash their hands frequently.  We want everyone to have a safe break!

Remote Instruction
Remote instruction will resume on Tuesday, April 14.  We are happy that most students have been able to access their materials and successfully complete assignments.  For students who are confused, please have them reach out to their teachers after spring break.  We have several methods for helping them learn about how to access and submit their assignments and will be glad to help them.  Most of our teachers are delivering content through email, Canvas, Google Classroom, or their websites.  A complete list of where teacher instructions can be found is on our website under Remote Instruction Information.

When instruction resumes on April 14, we strongly encourage students to check their school email at least once a day Monday through Friday for updates.  If students are unsure about how to check their email, information about how to log into all student accounts can be found in the Saura Tech Center recently created on our South Stokes website under Students.  Communication is essential as we work to make plans to deliver content remotely.  Please have your student make contact with their teachers when they have questions or concerns.

Need paper materials?
We know some students have little or no access to internet.  While we prefer students get materials online as we are able to communicate with them more easily live, if students have limited access to remote instruction, please call the school and talk to administrators about paper/pencil options for students.

Ms. Gallimore and I are usually in the office at school from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday through Friday if you would like to call for more information 336-994-2995.  Office hours will be more limited the week of Spring Break and the office will be closed on Friday.

Please keep an eye on the Stokes County Schools' website, South Stokes website and school social media sites for updates.  We will also send phone messages with relevant information as well.

Chromebook Help
If students are having problems with the Chromebook, please complete a Tech Support Ticket on the school website or call the school.  We do have a scheduled time for students to have tech support on campus if needed.  Completing the form or calling ahead will allow you to schedule a time for assistance if needed.  Mrs. Campbell also has "Office Hours" each day when students can participate in a Google Meet with her.  If students need to speak with Mrs. Campbell, have them call the school and we will send them an invitation to her office hours.

How Can I Help Students With Online Learning?
We've gathered several resources to help families determine what online learning should look like in their homes and where to find help when needed.  Below are several websites with information about remote learning and how to cope during this time of uncertainty.  Some of the tips we find over and over are listed below along with links to resources.

Best Practices for Learning from Home

1)  Establish a routine

  • Get up at the same time each day
  • Check email when you get started and then again later in the day

2)  Set up a work space
  • Gather all the materials you may need in one space (pencils, paper, calculator, etc)

3)  Communication is VERY important
  • Stay in touch with teacher!
  • Be sure to ask questions
  • If you are not sure how to communicate, check email or call the school 336-994-2995
4)  Use videos like those on YouTube to learn how to navigate online tools if needed
