Saura Summer Updates - July 12, 2020

Senior Pictures Soon!
Appointment cards for senior pictures were mailed to rising seniors from Lifetouch this past week.  Pictures are scheduled for July 14 and July 22.  Please be sure to go to www.prestigeportraits.com to confirm your appointment or select a different time.  If you did not receive an appointment card, you can schedule a time online at www.prestigeportraits.com as well.  Please be sure to be on time for your appointment to assist the photographers in ensuring social distancing.

The pictures taken this summer are the pictures for the 2020-2021 yearbook so please have your picture taken if at all possible.

Cap and gown pictures will be taken in Spring 2021 once your graduation orders arrive.

Summer Workout Information
Summer workouts are underway!  Volleyball, football, soccer, tennis, and cheerleading all met this week.  Details for workouts can be found on the Summer Workouts List.  You can also find contact information for the coaches in the presentation below.  Students who have been experiencing illness should not plan to attend workouts until they are well.  Please be sure to view the slides below to learn about the temperature checks, etc.

You can view all of the NC High School Athletic Association's guidance regarding summer workouts online at https://www.nchsaa.org/news/2020-6-8/nchsaa-summer-guide-reopening-sportsactivities.

Summer Enrichment
Students have not been in the school building in a while, and we all know how important it is to always keep learning.  Our teachers have put together lists of suggested activities students can do this summer to review, explore, and enjoy.  Check out their suggestions: doing a couple of activities each week will help students be more prepared for the upcoming school year.

Chromebook Collections

Students should return Chromebooks, chargers, calculators, and other school materials this week.  The office will be open 7:30 am until 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday.  Please call the school and let us know if you need assistance getting materials back to school and we will work with students to get items returned.

2020-2021 School Year

As you have probably heard, Governor Cooper has not released information about what the new school year will look like.  While Stokes County Schools wants in-person, face-to-face instruction for the entire school year, we have been instructed to prepare three plans -- one for reopening at full capacity, one for opening at 50% capacity and one to continue remote learning, with buildings remaining closed.

Plan A
Allows all students to return to school and requires additional sanitizing of schools and buses, health screenings as students arrive, and restricted use of common spaces, including cafeterias.

Plan B
Involves reopening with buildings and buses at 50% capacity, would require alternative scheduling. Our students would alternate between virtual and in-person classes to reduce the number inside the building at one time. Stokes County Schools is working on the details of this plan at this time and will announce them as soon as they are finalized.

Plan C
This option would be to continue to keep our buildings closed and we would use improved remote learning when school buildings closed because of the virus.

While we hope Governor Cooper says we will use plan A for the entire school year, we anticipate he may move us from one plan to another based on the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

Stokes County Schools asks our parents to make the same plans we are asked to make. Have a plan for your family, for each of the Governor’s plans.

Stokes County School is committing to offer high-quality education for our students in the 2020-2021 school year.  Our county and our school will continue to share information as it becomes available.
