Saura Weekly Updates - March 21, 2021

 



Schedule for March 22-26

This week, all students may return to in-person learning!!


Students who have been on Plan C who would like to return to in-person learning are welcome to return to in-person learning have until Wednesday to begin Plan A.


Student Drivers
Student drivers may park in any parking spot for the next two weeks while we distribute and collect parking permit applications.  Try to park in the front lot if spaces are available.  Students will be assigned spots after Spring Break.  The parking permit fee will be waived this year, but students who have not paid the "It's My Call" fee ($5.50) will need to pay it in order to park on campus.  When students arrive at school, they should report to the main entrance if it is before 8:00 am or to their 1st period classroom beginning at 8:00 am.  Students who arrive at 8:30 am or after must report to the main office for screening before being admitted to classroom buildings.

Bus Transportation
Riders will need the NEW attestation form and mask to board the bus.  With the addition of riders, please be at your bus stop 15-20 minutes earlier than usual on Monday unless Mr. Tedder has contacted you regarding a different time.  Students are also asked to check emails this weekend in case there are additional updates or Mr. Tedder is not able to reach you by phone.

Other Reminders:
  • Breakfast (free for everyone) available in the cafeteria from 8:00-8:30 am.  Second chance breakfast will be available on the sidewalk near the library at 10:00 am.
  • Where to report when arriving at school (the main lobby will open at 7:30 am; report to 1st period beginning at 8:00 am)
  • Social distancing (don't gather in groups, maintain space between students)
  • One way hallways (follow the arrowheads)
  • Lunches - free for everyone (picked up from the cafeteria during 3rd period MENU)


Students who may need bus transportation should call or email Mr. Tedder 336-994-2995 or matthew.tedder@stokes.k12.nc.us) so we can add these students to our routes and provide pick-up and drop-off times.  






Registration for 2021-2022
Registration for the 2021-2022 school year is underway.  Counselors have been meeting with students about course selections that align with their goals for after high school.  Students will be receiving emails from counselors about the online registration process and should finalize their course selections in PowerSchool by Thursday, April 1.

You can find the Stokes County Course Selection Guide online.  You can view additional details about graduation requirements and courses on the Registration Presentation as well.  Contact counselors with any questions about courses or registration.

We will hold a question and answer session online Tuesday evening, March 23 from 6:30-7:00 pm for students and families that have questions about courses and registration.  Counselors, administrators and teachers from different departments will be online to help you prepare for the 2021-2022 school year.  The LINK for the Q&A session can be accessed using any Google account.  For family members without Google accounts, you can have your student log in using their Chromebooks to access the meeting.

Senior Updates
Cap & Gown Delivery was March 15
If you have not picked up your items, please pick these up before or after school.  Balances must be paid in order to pick up items.  Call 1-800-JOSTENS to pay.


Cap & Gown Pictures - April 1
Cap and Gown pictures have been scheduled for Thursday, April 1.  Seniors will receive an email to schedule their appointment later this week.  We encourage all of our seniors to have their pictures made.  There is no sitting fee and you will be provided information about how to order packages if interested.  See the Senior Page of the school website for information about what to wear with your cap and gown.


PROM!
Prom will be on Saturday, May 1 on the South Stokes campus.   Additional information will be available soon.


AWARDS DAY, GRADUATION, and MORE!
Graduation is scheduled for Friday, May 28, 2021 at 7:00 pm!  Under the latest executive order we will be able to hold a live graduation outside at the football stadium.  Watch for more details in the near future about Awards Day, Graduation and more!

Athletic Boosters Cash Giveaway  - March 27, 2021

The Athletic Boosters will hold the $10,000 Cash Giveaway on March 27, 2021.  Tickets sold for the event that was postponed last March will be included in this year's drawing.  With the recent changes to gathering size limits, we now plan to host the event in person in a slightly modified format.  Tickets can be purchased from Boosters members or at school. Please consider supporting our Boosters and student athletes by purchasing a ticket.










Technology Assistance
If students are having problems with their Chromebooks, please submit a Tech Ticket on the school website and our staff will get in touch with you to help resolve the issue.









Sports Updates

Sports schedules have been add to the South Stokes Calendar and are aligned to the shortened seasons announced by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).  The amended sports calendar can be found below.  Contact coaches for information about any scheduled workouts.

Watch Saura Athletes Online!
With recent changes to gathering limits, we anticipate being able to have many more spectators at events for the spring.  With this increase, broadcasting will be more limited than in the past.  Watch social media on game days for details about spectators and broadcast information.  If South Stokes does broadcast we will use the SSHS YouTube page.

School Nutrition Information
Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all students through the remainder of the school year.  The program will soon begin offering extras for sale in addition to distributing the meals.  Students must receive a meal before being able to purchase chips, snacks, cookies, and extras.  Students will only be able to purchase extras if they have money or there is money on their accounts.  No charging of extras will be allowed.  You can view your student's lunch account and add money to accounts at https://www.k12paymentcenter.com/.  You can also view the menu for the month on the Stokes County School Nutrition website.


Free & Reduced Lunch Applications!
Even though breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year, it is very important that families who qualify complete the free and reduced lunch application.  Free and reduced lunch percentages impact funding for our school district and several of our families who qualified in the past have not applied this year.  Please be sure to compete the application online ahttps://www.lunchapplication.com or contact the school for a paper application.


Pandemic Electronic Benefits Updates



North Carolina will be providing electronic pandemic food assistance benefits, also referred to as P-EBT, to help eligible families purchase food for their children. Households with children enrolled at South Stokes who are eligible for free or reduced price meals under the National School Lunch Program and have been impacted by virtual or remote learning due to COVID 19 are eligible. If your child is eligible and you already have an EBT card, the benefits will be loaded on your existing card. If your child is eligible and you do not currently have an EBT card, a card will be mailed to the address you have provided to the school. 

If you have not completed a free or reduced-price meal application this school year, and think your child may be eligible, you can apply online at lunchapplication.com or get a paper application from school.
