This Week...
Tomorrow is Halloween.  Please note that students should not wear costumes or face paint to school.  


Drivers Education Class
Registration for the next drivers ed class is now available.  The class will be held November 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 21 (Make-up day November 22) from 3:30 - 6:30 pm at South Stokes High School.  To register for the class, students must be born on or before May 6, 2002.  Registration ends on Nov 3 and class list will be posted on November 4.  Students must pay the $65 registration fee before the first day of class and bring their birth certificate, social security card, driver’s training book, and a completed 800 Form (available in office) on first day of class.  For more information or to register visit the SSHS Drivers Ed Page.


End of Quarter - October 31

End of Quarter - October 31
The end of the first quarter is Monday, October 31.  This is the halfway point for fall semester classes.  Please review your child's grades and attendance in PowerSchool and when report cards come home on November 14.  If you have questions or concerns, please set up a conference with your child's teacher.  


Senior News!!
Attention all seniors! It’s time to order your senior t-shirts. Short sleeves are $20 and long sleeves are $25. Order forms were given out in homeroom. You may pick up an extra one in F6. You may place your order with Mrs. Becky Patterson in F6 before or after school or during your lunch. Last day to order is Friday, October 28 – which will be here before you know it. So don’t miss out - order soon!!

If the seniors would like to pick which pose from their senior pictures will go in the yearbook, they need to see Ms. Alyssa Smith before Friday, Oct. 28.

Friday, October 28 is also the deadline for senior quotes for the yearbook.  Quotes must be school appropriate and 15 words or less.  Give quotes to Ms. Smith.

Seniors who would like baby pictures in the yearbook should turn in $5 and the picture before Thanksgiving break (Nov. 22).

Homecoming Week was a great one at South!  Many students showed their school spirit throughout the week and we congratulate our 2016 Homecoming Queen Kenya Jones; Homecoming Princess Lauren Brown, and Miss Congeniality Hope Cooper who were crowned Friday night.


Congratulations to our Marine Corps JROTC Program for being selected as a Naval Honor School for the 2015-2016 school year in recognition of exemplary performance!

This past week was a busy one at South Stokes!  We hosted a College Fair on Wednesday with almost 80 college representatives on campus.  Then on Thursday, our students worked diligently on college and career readiness assessments and activities, listened to alumni guest speakers, and enjoyed a carnival to finish out the short week.  We will use the information gathered to prepare upcoming enrichment programs designed to meet the individual needs of our students.  Please continue to encourage your children to work hard each day to help them be prepared for a variety of options when they graduate.


Spirit Week
This upcoming week will be full of Spirit Week activities leading up to Homecoming at Friday night's football game.  Our themes for each day are...

PSAT 
Sophomores and juniors planning to attend a four-year college are encouraged to take the PSAT.  The test is the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program for juniors and is an excellent way to prepare for the SAT.  The test will be given during the school day on October 19.  Registration is now available in the Counseling Office and the cost is $15.  Fee waivers are available for juniors who are eligible.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our Direct Donation Fundraiser!  We raised almost $4,000 to use towards instructional supplies, campus improvements, and technology.

School Fees

College & Career Readiness Day
Thursday, October 6 we will be holding a College & Career Readiness Day.  Every grade level will be completing morning activities which will help them prepare for future readiness assessments and career prep activities.  Freshmen will be completing technology workshops and college and career research, Sophomores will be taking Pre-ACT required by the state, Juniors will be preparing for the ACT that they will be required to take in March, and Seniors will be preparing for the required WorkKeys assessment and financial aid workshops.  In the afternoon, we are excited to host alumni speakers and hold a carnival to celebrate our past year of success.  We have several teachers and students who have worked to organize this day and it is important that all students be on campus on time on Thursday.  Students must attend the morning preparation activities in order to participate in the afternoon celebration.
