Saura Weekly Updates - March 26, 2017

Saura Weekly Updates

March 26, 2017

It was a busy week as we finished out the 3rd quarter of the school year this week.  Although we are nearing the end of the school year, students are reminded that expectations for attendance, behavior, and academics remain high!  Parents, please help us by reminding your children of the importance of coming to school on time each day.  School begins at 8:30 am and we have several students who are persistently tardy.  We are also having some issues with students leaving campus during the day without permission.  If your child needs to leave campus during the day for any reason, they must bring a note to the office at the beginning of the day or a legal guardian must speak with a school official before the student is dismissed.  In either instance, students must sign out at the office.  Students who leave without permission or leave without signing out are considered to have left campus without permission.

Also, as the weather begins to warm, I want to remind everyone of the dress code.  Skirts, shorts, dresses and holes in jeans should be modest.  If students extend their hands and fingers, all skin above the fingertips should be covered.   Also spaghetti straps and shirts with large or cut out arm holes are not appropriate at school.

2017-2018 Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Mrs. Becky Patterson who was selected by her peers as the 2017-2018 South Stokes Teacher of the Year!  Mrs. Patterson is an exceptional math teacher and we are fortunate to have her as a part of our Saura Family.  We know she will represent us well as she competes for the Stokes County Teacher of the Year!

The Future is Bright
This week, South Stokes celebrated being one of seven schools in North Carolina to be awarded a grant from Duke Energy for solar panels that will be installed on our campus.  We appreciate our special guests who attended our special presentation and look forward to the educational opportunities it will bring to students in Stokes County.

Mr. Hall Interim AP
Paul Hall has been named interim assistant principal for the remainder of the school year.  Mrs. Emily Goins who has been split between South Stokes and Poplar Springs all year will now be serving at Poplar Springs and King Elementary.  While we are glad to regain our full-time administrative position, we were sad to see Mrs. Goins go.  Mr. Hall received his degree in administration from Appalachian State University and we are happy that he has agreed to serve as interim until we conduct interviews in June.
