Fall Conferences
We are now five weeks into the semester and we would like to update you on your child's progress this school year.  Teachers will be available Tuesday night, October 2 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm for conferences.  If you are not able to attend, we encourage you to email or call your child's teacher.  You can find email addresses on our STAFF PAGE.  We hope to see you on Tuesday evening!


Senior T-Shirts
 DOWNLOAD ORDER FORMS
Attention all seniors!  It's time to order your senior t-shirts.  Short sleeves are $20, long sleeves are $25, and hoodies are $27.  Order forms were given out in homeroom.  You may pick up an extra one in F4, F6, or the main office.  You may place your orders with Mrs. Becky Patterson in F6 or Mrs. Hunter in F4 before or after school or in the office during the school day.  The last day to order is Friday, October 12, which will be here before you know it.  Don't miss out and order yours soon! 




Register Now for the PSAT
Sophomores and juniors planning to attend a four-year college after high school are encouraged to take the PSAT.  The PSAT will be administered at South on Wednesday, October 10 during the school day.  Students should register in the counseling office for the test.  There are a limited number of seats for the test and registration will close on October 3.  The fee is $16 and may be paid by cash or check.  Checks should be made payable to South Stokes and a phone number should be included on the check.  See your counselor for additional details.



Free & Reduced Lunch
October 11 is the last day students can qualify for free and reduced lunch based on last year's eligibility.  If you have not already filled out a form for the 2018-2019 school year, please do so as soon as possible.  You can now complete them ONLINE or on paper.  If you need a paper form for Free & Reduced Lunch or a Fee Waiver form, you can pick them up in the office.

Saura Weekly Updates - September 23, 2018














We were very pleased to have students from SGA join us for our School Improvement Team meeting this past week!  The students brought some great suggestions for consideration and we are already moving towards implementing some of the ideas mentioned.  We are working to get ID cards for students and creating presentations for students on the purpose and operating procedures of our new door locks.  We hope they will keep bringing suggestions to help improve our school!

FFA Hurricane Relief Drive


The FFA will be collecting perishable food items, bottled water, cleaning supplies and toiletries for victims of Hurricane Florence.  If you would like to donate, you can drop items off in the main office between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday.



Drivers Ed

The test day for drivers ed is Tuesday, September 25, as an extra day had to be added when school was cancelled.  Anyone who needs to make-up class time should also plan to attend on Wednesday, September 26.

Congratulations to the 2018 Homecoming Court!  Be sure to mark your calendars for Friday, October 19 to be here when we crown the 2018 Homecoming Queen.

Student drivers received parking permits this past week and we will begin enforcing parking guidelines this week.  All students driving to campus should have a permit.  Applications are available in the office.

As fall approaches, be sure to check out all of the events going on at South!

We will begin using our door door locks on Monday.  If you visit the school during the school day you will need to mash the button on the box beside the far right door at the main entrance for admittance.

We encourage all families to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch Forms to see if they qualify.  You can now complete them ONLINE or on paper.  If you need a paper form for Free & Reduced Lunch or a Fee Waiver form, you can pick them up in the office.


Chromebook Pick-up
Most of our students have picked up their Chromebooks for the year.  If your child has not picked up their Chromebook and you need the parent training, please call the school for an appointment.  If the $25 insurance fee is a significant hardship, contact Mrs. Cheek for information about a payment plan.

You should have received an email to complete student registration or a paper copy of your SnapCode attached to your child's schedule at Open House.  If you have not already done so, please complete your child's student information materials online at http://www.stokes.k12.nc.us/enroll-in-our-schools.html.  Completing these forms will help ensure we have the most up-to-date contact information to help us maintain contact with you about your child's progress at school.

SSHS School Report CardIt was another great week at South!  We were excited to celebrate our School Performance Grade which was released on Wednesday.  For the fifth year in a row, South Stokes earned a "B" grade and for the 2017-2018 school year we EXCEEDED GROWTH which is the highest growth distinction awarded.  We invite students to celebrate with us on Monday with a free cup of ice cream in the cafeteria at lunch!

New Security Features
Installation should be completed soon on our new security system.  When it is completely installed, there will be a sign on the front doors as a reminder to ring for entrance.


Parking Permits
Parking permits will be distributed beginning on Monday.  Students need to start parking in their assigned places on Wednesday.  Students parked on campus without a permit beginning on Wednesday are subject to ticketing.  Applications for parking are available in the office or online at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cSyNV67Thw5RfsI866UVBIO4aIqkOjc8.  A complete application includes a signed application, "It's My Call/It's Your Call" form, and the $40 permit fee.  Parking places will be assigned based on when applications are received.
