Saura Weekly Updates - January 3, 2021

 





Schedule for January 4 - January 8

This week, the schedule for on-campus attendance is

Monday, January 4 - Last Names A-K ("A" Day) - AP Classes A Schedule
Tuesday, January 5 - Last Names A-K ("A" Day)
Wednesday, January 6 - Last Names A-K ("A" Day)

Thursday, January 7 - Last Names L-Z ("B" Day)
Friday, January 8 - Last Names L-Z ("B" Day)


The calendar for "A" Day and "B" Day students can be found in the Stokes County Schools Relaunch Plan.  These dates have also been added to the South Stokes calendar as well.




Second Semester Classes
Students who will be attending remotely on Monday should be sure to check their student email for information about how to access their classes.  Many of their courses can likely be found in Canvas as well.



Return to In-Person Learning
Students who have been on Plan C - all remote learning who would like to return to school on their assigned days are welcome to return for 2nd semester.  If students need to be added to bus routes, please call the school or email Mr. Tedder at matthew.tedder@stokes.k12.nc.us.



Screening Reminders
As we return for second semester, bus riders need to make sure they have bus attestation forms to board buses when they ride to school.  Also, please be reminded all students and visitors will be screened upon entering the building.  The screening questions are below.  Individuals who are "yes" to any of the questions below should remain at home and contact the Stokes County Health Department or their health care professional if they have not already.


Screening Questions
  • Have you been diagnosed with COVID-19 since you were last at school?
  • Have you had any of the following symptoms since you were last at school?
  • Have you had close contact (been within 6 feet of someone diagnosed with COVID-19 for a cumulative total of 15 minutes over a 24-hour period) in the last 14 days?
  • Has any health department staff or a health care provider been in contact with you and advised you to quarantine?
 

Make-up Exams 
Students who missed taking state exams in December will make up their exams this week.  Mr. Tedder sent an email to these students last week.  Students who need to take exams will attend class on Monday and take exams later in the week.


Drivers Education
The next Driver's Ed class will be held January 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and February 1 from 3:30 pm - 8:30 pm in the auditorium at South Stokes.  Registration will close January 6.  Class size is limited and oldest students are served first.  Find complete information and the registration form on the Driver's Ed page of the school website.





Yearbook Information!
Don't forget to reserve your copy of the 2020-2021 Yearbook!  Yearbooks will be delivered during the summer and will include most of the spring events.  Find information about ordering on the South Stokes website on the Order the Yearbook page under Students.

Also, senior ad information can be found on the Senior Page of the South Stokes website.  Senior ads are due by December 22 February 5 (Date extended!).




Athletic Boosters Cash Giveaway  - March 2021

The Athletic Boosters are making plans to hold the $10,000 Cash Giveaway that was originally scheduled for March 2020.  After the meeting this past week, we have rescheduled the event for March 27, 2021 in hopes that we can have a similar event as in the past.  




Technology Assistance
If students are having problems with their Chromebooks, please submit a Tech Ticket on the school website and our staff will get in touch with you to help resolve the issue.

Reminders about Plan B
Students returning to in-school instruction should review some of the changes they will see on campus.  

  • Bus transportation (will need attestation form and mask)
  • Student drivers - park in front lot in numbered spaces (no permit required at this time) and exit vehicle and enter school when you arrive
  • Breakfast (free for everyone) available on the breezeway near the library
  • Where to report when arriving at school (the main lobby will not open until 7:30 am; report to 1st period at 8:00 am)
  • Social distancing (don't gather in groups, maintain space between students)
  • One way hallways (follow the arrowheads)
  • Lunches - free for everyone (delivered to classrooms - eat with 3rd period MENU)



Sports Updates
Sports schedules have been add to the South Stokes Calendar and are aligned to the shortened seasons announced by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).  The amended sports calendar can be found below.  Contact coaches for information about any scheduled workouts.

Spectators at sporting events will be limited due to mass gathering guidelines.  Only spectators with player passes will be admitted.  Home events will be broadcast over Facebook Live or on the South Stokes YouTube page and we will try to make sure as many away games are broadcast as well.  Watch social media on game days for broadcast information.

Schedule for December 21 - December 22

This week, the schedule for on-campus attendance is

EXAMS
Monday, December 21 - 3rd period state exams
Tuesday, December 22 - 4th period state exams



The calendar for "A" Day and "B" Day students can be found in the Stokes County Schools Relaunch Plan.  These dates have also been added to the South Stokes calendar as well.



Exams - Fall 2020
Fall semester exams are going well and will conclude this week.  State exams which include CTE Post-Assessments and End-of-Course Tests are required to be administered in person. Other courses with teacher-made exams will be administering exams remotely to students who are not exempt.  

Testing is occurring in small groups of students to help provide for social distancing during the exam periods.  All students (including those on Plan C - All Remote Learning) who are taking courses with state exams should make plans to attend school on the day of their exam.  

Exams count 20% of students' final grades.  If you have questions about whether your courses have state exams, please speak with your teacher.  Information about exams can also be found in students' Homeroom Canvas Course.

Monday, December 21 - 3rd Period Exams

On-campus exams will be administered from 8:30 am - 12:20 pm.  Students who would like to leave when the building is finished testing should bring a note Teacher made exam details will be provided by students' teachers.

Students who need bus transportation on exam days should let their teachers know so we can make sure you are on a route for exam day.









Second Semester Classes

Second semester will begin on Monday, January 4.  Students were given second semester schedules and can view their schedules in PowerSchool.  Their second semester teachers will email a link to their Google Meets the weekend before second semester begins and teachers will spend the first day of class introducing students to their courses including how to navigate their Canvas courses.  Please review schedules for next semester and contact counselors with any questions.

Students who have been Plan C - all remote learning - who are interested in returning to in-person learning for second semester are welcome to start attending on their designated days.



Drivers Education

March 12 will now be a regular instruction day (change from a remote only day) due to the remote learning day on December 16.

The Athletic Boosters are making plans to hold the $10,000 Cash Giveaway that was originally scheduled for March 2020.  After the meeting this past week, we have rescheduled the event for March 27, 2021 in hopes that we can have a similar event as in the past.  

The Athletic Boosters have some Saura apparel for sale.  Like the Athletic Boosters' Facebook page to see the items available.  Send a message to let the Boosters know what you'd like to purchase and they will make arrangements for pickup.  Thank you for supporting the Sauras!

Exams - Fall 2020

UPDATE CHROMEBOOKS!
If is important that all Chromebooks are updated for exams.  Teachers worked with students this week to update Chromebooks to make sure they are functioning properly.  Please check with students to make sure they have completed the process and report any broken keys or problems with devices to Mrs. Himmelspach and Mrs. Campbell.  A video for updating devices can be found below along with links to written directions and tech tickets for assistance.
