Saura Weekly Updates - March 16, 2020

Schools Are Closed - COVID-19 Update
We know there are a lot of questions about what will happen in response to the COVID-19 school closures.

Here is the information Dr. Rice provided Sunday evening, March 15:

• Monday, March 16, from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, will be a day for you or your child to come to school to pick up your child’s personal and educational belongings. This will include clothing, book bags, medicine, Chromebooks in grades 6-12, and any other items they need.

• March 17-March 27, your child’s school will be in contact with you to offer enhanced educational opportunities.

• As a district, we will be preparing to resume educational programming remotely on March 30 should the state extend the school closure.

• At this time, spring break will occur as scheduled.

• All field trips for the 2019-2020 school year have been cancelled. School administrators are working to get refunds for the trip in light of it being a National Emergency.

• All afterschool daycare has been suspended until further notice.

• Driver’s education has been suspended until further notice.

• Our high schools will try to have proms and graduations when the mass gathering ban has been lifted even if these events are delayed. We will communicate the details when we have them.

Starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020, we will have “Free, To-Go Meals” service for all children or young adults ages 2-18 from 11:00-1:00 at the following locations:

We, too, have lots of questions about what will happen with school closures.  As Dr. Rice has shared, he is working with local and state officials and will work to keep us all informed as decisions are made.  We know you are concerned about sports schedules, school events like Prom and Graduation, and have questions about instruction for students.  We will continue to provide information as it becomes available.  Please keep an eye on the Stokes County Schools' website, South Stokes website and school social media sites for updates.  We will also send phone messages with relevant information as well.

Enhanced Educational Opportunities
Students Should Check School Email!

Teachers are developing enhanced educational opportunities for students during this school closure.  Please encourage students to check their school email and our website for information about educational plans.

No Internet, No Device, Need Technical Assistance?
Let us know if accessing online content is going to be difficult for you or if you need technical assistance!  We want to help get you the information and resources you need.  Call the school office at 336-994-2995 for help.

Protect Yourself
Please help us remind students to wash their hands frequently to help prevent the spread of germs.  Also, please remember that if students have a fever, they should not return to school until they have been fever free for 24 hours.  Stokes County Schools shared a press release this week about COVID-19 which includes these reminders and more to help keep our students and staff healthy.  You can view the press release HERE.

Forsyth Tech Courses
Forsyth Tech is also working to adjust instruction in response to Governor Cooper's Executive Order.  Forsyth Tech classes will be suspended from March 16 through March 29.  Students taking Forsyth Tech classes should check their Forsyth Tech email for updates.

Athletic Boosters Cash Giveaway - POSTPONED
The Athletic Boosters will hold their annual Cash Giveaway, but at this time we are postponing the event.  Originally scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2020, we will let everyone know when a new date is established.  Tickets are $100 and include dinner for two and a chance to win $10,000.  See any Athletic Booster member or call the school to purchase a ticket.  Thank you for your patience as we work to find a new date and for supporting our Saura athletes!
