Saura Weekly Updates - May 31, 2020

GRADUATION - June 5, 2020 at 7:00 pm!
Be sure to tune in Friday evening to celebrate the Class of 2020!  A link to the filmed graduation ceremony will be released on our website (www.south.stokes.k12.nc.us) at the time of graduation.  Please gather with your families and share this special moment with our Sauras!

If mass gathering and social distancing requirements are lifted we will plan a ceremony for August 1st as well.

Talent Show - Quarantine Edition!
Be sure to encourage your student to log into their school email account to view the 2020 Talent Show!  Coach Clark is the emcee of the event and we think you'll enjoy watching with your student.  Access is limited to students and staff at South Stokes and they must be signed into their school accounts for access.

Awards Day
Our Awards Day presentation will be shared this week as well.  We will send a link out to the presentations through email and share on social media.  Please help us congratulate all of our awards recipients for the 2019-2020 school year.  Students will be able to pick up their awards at school after Wednesday, June 3.

Final Grades
Teachers are finishing grading for the final assignments of the school year.  They are also working to contact 9th-11th grade students and their families about grade options for this COVID-19 period.  Students have several options including those listed below and in the grade presentation shared earlier this spring.  If you and/or your student have not already been in contact with their teachers, please email or call them to help make the grade selection best for your student.

  • Use 3rd quarter grade for their final grade for second semester courses
  • Use an average of 3rd & 4th quarter grades for second semester courses
  • Take a PC19 code - "pass" - if the student was passing at the end of 3rd quarter or with the average of 3rd & 4th quarter grades
  • Receive a WC19 code - "withdrawal" - if the student was not passing the course at the end of 3rd quarter and have not improved their grade during 4th quarter

Students taking year-long courses have additional options their teachers can discuss further as well.

Extra Yearbooks!
We were able to secure 17 additional copies of the yearbook for this year for students who did not pre-order.  These copies will be on sale beginning Monday morning, June 1 at 8:00 am in the main office on a first come, first served basis.  You can purchase one of these yearbooks for $35 with cash or check.

Pre-ordered yearbooks may be picked up June 1, 2, 3 from 8am-4pm in the main office.

Either the student or their parent/guardian must be present to pick up a yearbook.

If you would like someone else to pick up your yearbook for you, you must contact Ms. A Smith beforehand in order to make sure that all of the books go to the right place.

Remote Learning Wrap Up
We know remote learning was difficult for some students.  Thank you for encouraging your students to continue working despite the inability to meet face-to-face!

We know many students and families have questions about what school will look like in the fall.  Our district is working with state and local leaders and making plans for school in the fall even though we don't know requirements yet.  As we receive information, we will be sure to pass it along to our Saura families.  Students are scheduled to start date the 2020-2021 school year on Monday, August 17.  The revised 2020-2021 Stokes County  School Calendar is now available.  You can see the calendar for the 2020-2021 school year at

Saura Weekly Updates - May 24, 2020

We are almost to the end of the 2019-2020 school year!  While this last quarter has not been what any of us expected, we are proud of our students who stuck with their coursework through the remainder of the semester even in tough circumstances.  This week will be the last week of assignments in order to allow time for students to complete their work before returning their Chromebooks in June.

Our staff continues to work on some end-of-year recognitions and will share award recipients and more with you as we get closer to the last day of the school year (June 3).

Ms. Gallimore Named Principal of Germanton Elementary School
Please join us in congratulating Ms. Kristan Gallimore who was named the next principal of Germanton Elementary School.  Ms. Gallimore will be finishing out the school year with the Sauras before moving to Germanton in June.  Ms. Gallimore has done a wonderful job at South Stokes for the past three years and will be missed by us all!  We are excited she will be moving just down the road to help educate our future Sauras!

Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
We enjoyed seeing our seniors and their families for filming our remote graduation ceremony.  Be sure to tune in June 5, 2020 at 7:00 pm to view the ceremony and celebrate with our seniors.  There will be a link on our school website to the ceremony on June 5.

Our hope will be to have a live ceremony on August 1 if mass gathering and social distancing requirements are lifted.

Honor Graduates and Junior Marshals
Congratulations to our 2020 Honor Graduates and Junior Marshals!  These students have worked hard to earn these academic honors and we celebrate their accomplishments.  Be sure to check them out in the graduation ceremony on June 5.

Remote Learning Continues Through June 3, 2020
Please continue to encourage students to log in and complete assignments through the remainder of the school year.  Most of our high school courses build on one another and/or contain content students will need later in the workplace or college.  If students or families have questions about the coursework in a class, please contact your teachers.  Our teachers all want students to be successful during this time of remote learning and will be glad to assist you.  You can also call the school between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday and we will be glad to assist you.

As remote instruction continues, be sure to reach out to teachers if you need assistance.  You can find email addresses for our teachers on the school website's staff page.

A complete list of where teachers are providing instruction can be found is on our website under Remote Instruction Information.  If students are unsure about how to check their email, information about how to log into all student accounts can be found in the Saura Tech Center recently created on our South Stokes website under Students.

Need paper materials?
We know some students have little or no access to internet.  While we prefer students get materials online as we are able to communicate with them more easily live, if students have limited access to remote instruction, please call the school and talk to administrators about paper/pencil options for students.
