Saura Weekly Updates - August 30, 2020

Remote Learning in Progress!

Students have done a good job logging into their classes this week!  If you are having connection issues or have concerns about classes, please contact teachers.  We will be glad to help students who are having problems with their coursework.

Links to coursework can be found in Canvas courses.  Students should reach out to teachers if they have any questions about assignments or accessing class materials.

Teachers are also posting videos of direct instruction after classes are over.  Please note videos may take several hours to process, but should be available later in the evening or the next day if students would like to review instruction for the day.

Parents/guardians who would like to keep up with their students' progress in courses are encouraged to sign up for PowerSchool (grades & attendance) and/or Canvas Parent Access.  Information about signing up can be found on the school website on the Parent Page or by calling the school.

Updating Chromebooks
Some students are having problems with pictures and videos appearing.  Teachers are going to walk students through updating their Chromebooks and clearing memories to hopefully help with some of the issues students have been running into.  If students continue to have problems, please submit a Tech Ticket on the school website and our staff will get in touch with you to help resolve the issue.

Attendance for Remote Classes
Teachers are taking attendance each day.  If students are not present for remote instruction, we will start sending automated phone messages to make you aware of student absences.  Students will need to communicate with teachers if they are not going to be present for online instruction and complete any assignments they missed for the day.

What School Will Look Like - Health & Safety
Many of you have asked what school will look like when students are back in school.  Stokes County Schools will be using guidance from local, state, and federal agencies to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.  Requirements will include health screenings,  masks and social distancing throughout the school.  You can view much of the guidance in the North Carolina Health and Human Services' StrongSchoolsNC Public Health Toolkit (K-12).  The guidance is  updated regularly based on the latest data and we will continue to update our plans accordingly.  We will share about the changes students will see at school during orientation appointments and you are likely to see new signage around campus.

Reminder about the three W's

Each staff member, student, and visitor will be asked the following screening questions and have their temperature taken before entering the building:

2)  Do you have any of the following symptoms: fever, chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, new cough, new loss of taste or smell.
