Saura Weekly Updates - August 23, 2020

Remote Learning Begins Monday!

Thank you to everyone who attended Orientation this past week!  Hopefully you were able to connect with teachers and now have a good picture of what remote learning will look like this semester.

Students will attend LIVE classes this fall beginning Monday, August 24.  The daily schedule for Plan C is as follows:

8:30 am - 10:00 am         1st Period
10:05 am - 11:35 am        2nd Period
11:35 am - 12:05 pm        Lunch
12:05 pm - 1:45 pm         3rd Period
1:50 pm - 3:20 pm          4th Period

Links to coursework can be found in Canvas courses.  Students should reach out to teachers if they have any questions about assignments or accessing class materials.  If they are experiencing technical difficulties, there is a Tech Support Request button on the South Stokes website.

In addition to being live, the other big changes for this year include:  attendance will be taken for classes, numerical grades will be assigned and there will be end of semester exams.

Please be sure students communicate with teachers, attend class, and submit assignments to help ensure success.

All remote instruction (Plan C) is currently scheduled to continue until October 14.

On October 15, Stokes County plans to move to Plan B with in-school and remote learning on alternating days.  Students whose last names begin with A-K will attend school on "A" Days and last names L-Z will attend on "B" Days.  The calendar for this alternating schedule is available in the Stokes County Schools Re-Launch 2020-2021 Plan.  The South Stokes calendar has been updated with this schedule as well.

Please contact the school with any questions.

School Cash Online
School fees for classes will be waived this semester.  The Chromebook insurance fee, drivers ed fee, "It's My Call" fee, and parking permit fee (when issued) will be required.  We encourage families to set up an account on School Cash Online. When fees are applied for spring semester or when yearbooks are available for purchase, field trip payments are due, etc. you will receive a notification and be able to see the fees on the site. You can then pay the fees online or in the office at school.

Child Nutrition
The Stokes County School Nutrition Program's Summer Feeding Program continues until August 31.  Meals can be picked up at any elementary, middle, or traditional high school between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm and is available for children 0-18 years old.  September 1st the usual school nutrition program will begin.  Families are encouraged to sign up for Free and Reduced Lunch to check their eligibility.  Meals will be available for curbside pickup at all elementary, middle, and traditional high schools.  Beginning September 1, those picking up meals will need their students' cafeteria number for the point-of-sale transaction.  Find more information at and on the Stokes County School Nutrition website.

Parking Permits
Applications for parking permits will not be available until closer to the time students return to campus.  We will share further details about parking at Orientation.

Sports Information
This week the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) announced a plan for shortened sports seasons which will begin in November.  The amended sports calendar can be found below.  The week of August 17 will be a "dead period" with no workouts that week.    Contact coaches for information about any scheduled workouts.
